Money smart

Homemade Dalgona coffee

When I first got paid during my practical training, my father reminded me to share my allowance with my mom. So I made a point to give 25% of my allowance which amounts to RM100.

When I started my job, with a salary of RM1100, my mom said "no need to give me money, learn to save money." How did I learn to save? My parents "force" me to take up ASB loan and I was told to not use the dividend unless I really need the money. I also took up investment linked insurance as another form of  forced savings. Why ASB loan? Because with higher capital invested, you gain higher return. Furthermore, a loan will make it a priority payment compared to self savings.

As my career grew and salary was better, I continue to give monthly cash to my mom and started to pick up some of her expenditure related to her skincare or clothing. My dad absolutely refuse to take any money from me and since at that time it was not so convenient to transfer fund from accounts, I took up the grocery expenses from my dad.

What has this experience done for me?

I have financial awareness from young and it has benefitted me in managing my expenses even though I am unemployed. The #blessing and dua from my mother has enabled me to live a peaceful life and raise my kids to be the best version of themselves.

Never miss sharing your rizq with your family.
